Unaware Needs Can Lead to Disasterous Consequences

I am one to believe that it is normal to have needs. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. As human beings it’s only normal to have a need to love and be loved, a need to be needed, a need for companionship, etc. However, when these needs take over to the point of it overwhelming you and you are unaware of this blinding you into situations that are not healthy for you, these unaware needs can lead to disastrous consequences.

So how can one become aware of these needs before it leads to a point of disastrous consequences? I think a big key is being mindful. This is the first main thing. Being mindful means being present, living the moment you are living. Not thinking about what you need to do next, not worrying about tomorrow. It is living this very moment as is. When you are mindful, you are centered and when you are centered, you are more aware of what you are living at the moment.

Spend some time thinking about what really matters to you. What do you value most? What do you desire out of life? What would your perfect life feel like? Asking yourself these questions will help you understand what your needs are and what you can do about them.

Monitor your thoughts and emotions. Your thoughts and emotions can tell you so much about where you are mentally, emotionally and spiritually in life. If something evokes anger in you, ask yourself why. Emotions are not to be ignored nor are they your enemy. They are your allies to your well-being, believe it or not.

All these things may seem like a lot of work but it is work worth doing. Anything great in life is work and reaching for well-being will be one of the best work you can ever do and part of reaching that well-being that you want is being aware of what your needs are so you have a better understanding of yourself.
