How To Get Your Momentum Back

It can be easy to lose your momentum in life, especially when life or circumstances can get in the way. When you start losing momentum is when you tend to get lazy or even give up. Perhaps you wanted certain things and things didn’t turn out the way you planned them to be. You had certain expectations and you are not yet where you want to be in life. When you get to that point is when you can start spiraling down and all you are left asking yourself, if you are not careful, is what just happened.

I would like to start by explaining the importance of having momentum in life and then I will go on to offering some suggestions to getting your momentum in life back. Having momentum is what keeps you going, keeps you going after your dreams in life and momentum provides you with energy. This is when you can be at your best, performing at your best and feeling your best. However, I have learned that in order to keep this momentum going, it is you who plays a role in this. It is you who have to keep the momentum going. At first it may feel or seem that not much effort is put from your part to have momentum but with time, it is you who have to fuel yourself to keep going. When you notice that you are losing momentum, there are several things that you can do so that you can get yourself back on track.

The first thing is to remember your vision or your goal. You have to go back to this. Remember what you wanted in the first place. Remember why you wanted what you wanted and remember the feelings you had at the beginning. Reminding yourself of your goals and how it felt to have those goals and remembering your why can help rekindle that feeling and thought of reaching those goals again. Do whatever it takes for you to keep that vision alive. A lot of times we tend to forget our dreams and when we do is when we can start spiraling down and not even notice until one day we just don’t feel happy with where we are in life. Always remind yourself of what you want out of life and keep that vision alive.

Apart from remembering your vision and goals, it is important to know that there may be some setbacks and that’s ok. Setbacks is what helps you learn and grow. It’s all part of the process. Sit back and review what were the setbacks and what can you learn from them. Ask yourself why were these things or events setbacks and question your role in each event. We are a part of every equation of everything that happens in our life. This is part of taking responsibility for your life and being in the driver seat of your life. Learn from what works and doesn’t work. What doesn’t work, ask yourself why it doesn’t work. You may learn a thing or two about yourself when doing this.

If you stopped doing what you enjoyed doing or you put aside what you were doing to reach your goals, just get back to that goal again. Start small again if you have to. You don’t have to do massive things in order to reach your goals. Just get back to what you were doing and do something every day that gets you closer to your goal. I will use as an example the process of losing weight. There will be times where you may plateau and this can discourage you and make you not want to workout or want to eat junk food. Even if you stopped exercising for several weeks, don’t beat yourself up because of this. Just get back to working out and eating healthy.

As human beings, it is normal to have bad days and good days, just don’t let those bad days take over your day and life. Same thing with when you lose momentum, you don’t have to let it make you spiral down in life. When losing momentum, it can feel like a bit of a blow to your life and well-being but it doesn’t have to be this way. Remember your vision/goal, learn from your setbacks, and just get back to what you were doing that made you happy. Just like a child as it starts to learn how to walk they fall and they get right back up, we too need to do the same and in doing so, that momentum that was once lost will come back.
